‘You're Welcome' Say Scotland's Estates
23rd June 2009Scotland’s estates are joining together to roll out the welcome mat this summer.
A new initiative called ‘You’re Welcome’ was launched today (Tues) to showcase the broad range of events and activities available on Scotland’s rural estates.
The information will be promoted via the specially created web page at: www.enjoyestates.org
Visitors will be able to choose from a whole host of activities, ranging from outdoor concerts to archaeological digs at estates throughout Scotland. Organisers are looking forward to welcoming people of all ages and interests to take part in the exciting new programme of events.
The You’re Welcome initiative was launched at Scone Palace where a programme of events will include an outdoor concert by Runrig in August.
Viscount Stormont, of Mansfield Estate, Scone, said: “Scotland’s estates are open to everyone and we have an exciting programme of events for all the family planned at Scone.
“I am very pleased to be able to take part in the launch of You’re Welcome, which I hope will lead to many more visitors to Scone and other rural attractions throughout Scotland.”
Local model, Sam Ronaldson, helped launch the initiative, where she posed as a rock chick, alongside Adrian Halllgarth, falconer, and gamekeeper, Stuart Paton, to illustrate the diversity of events.
Events taking place on estates include:
- Clan Tours
- Kite-Making
- An outdoor production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream
- A Vintage Car Rally
- An Orchid Festival
- Falconry displays
- Recycled Crafts
- Historical attic tours
- A Ceilidh
- A Scottish Game Fair
- A Teddy Bears Picnic
- Victorian Crafts
- A Dog-handler Training Day
- Tai Chi
Luke Borwick, Chairman of the Scottish Rural Property and Business Association, and owner of Blair Estate in Ayrshire, said: “For tourist visitors, or for those who live nearby, Scotland’s farms and estates offer an array of opportunities for fun days out, concerts, activities and events.
“It might come as a surprise to some, but many of our members see tourism and entertainment as vital parts of their businesses, offering a fantastic range of opportunities that can now be easily accessed through the new web page – one click away.”
Sir Alistair Gordon Cumming, Chairman of The Scottish Estates Business Group and owner of Altyre Estate, also took part in the launch. He explained that rural Scotland has something to offer everyone, and not only the more traditional pursuits.
He said: “This year there is an eclectic mix of events planned, combining the activities that many expect, such as pony trekking and scenic walks, with the rather more unusual, such as Tai Chi, recycled crafts and haunted history tours. There really is something for everyone.
“We want people to know that they’re very welcome on Scotland’s estates and we look forward to them joining us this summer.”
The You’re Welcome web page showcases over 100 activities on estates across Scotland. Information on what’s on offer is also available at the estates themselves.
