Tenant Farming Forum Consultation: Helping New Entrants Into Agriculture

11th October 2007

Cabinet Secretary Richard Lochhead has asked the Tenant Farming Forum (TFF), of which SEBG is a member, to help the Scottish Government in developing options to assist new entrants to get started in farming. Following an investigation of the barriers faced by new entrants, TFF is to make recommendations by the end of this year on how these may be overcome. As part of this work, the Forum is now seeking views on what practical solutions might be offered to overcome barriers to entry to the sector and has published a consultation paper.

The document sets out a short discussion of the main issues and includes a series of questions on which comments are being sought in order to ascertain views on what practical solutions can be offered to overcome the barriers to entry. All interested parties are being encouraged to respond to the consultation.

The deadline for comments is Friday 16 th November.

More information and copies of the consultation paper are available on the TFF website at www.tenantfarmingforum.org.uk .

Tenant Farming Forum:

The TFF is made up of NFU Scotland, Scottish Tenant Farmers Association (STFA), Scottish Estates Business Group (SEBG), Scottish Rural Business and Property Association (SRPBA), Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Scotland and Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs (SAYFC). The primary purpose of the Tenant Farming Forum is to help to promote a healthy farm tenanted sector in Scotland. A key part of a healthy tenanted farm sector is mobility allowing for new entrants and retirements.
